Just got this email from Chris Smith, Missions Secretary here at Sagemont Church:

Hey guys I was given an opportunity this morning to find some volunteer help for next Saturday, February 6, 2010.  We need about 6 guys to help load a container from a storage unit.  This container will go to Ghana, West Africa.

The æffect is a summer event that provides an incredible opportunity for the students of Sagemont Church.  It is five days of hearing God’s Word, experiencing great worship, and serving in the heart of the city of Houston.  Students will be staying on the campus of Houston Baptist University and will utilize the HBU dorms, cafeteria, gymnasium and chapel.  This is a shift from what was known as Camp Sagemont.  Students will be serving in the 3^rd Ward of Houston by helping widows, single mothers and doing clean up projects while working alongside students from that area of Houston.  The æffect starts on the morning of Monday, June 21^st, and is capped off by a church-wide celebration service on the HBU campus on Friday, June 25^th.  The vision of this week is to bring together junior high, high school and college students to take on one purpose, which is to be living proof of a loving God to a hurting area of Houston.  Because of the magnitude of this endeavor, Sagemont will link arms with organizations such as The Forge for Families, and Generation1.  These incredible partners have already established themselves in the 3^rd Ward and they will provide a link to this community before, during and after the project.

So here are the current details for this years mission trips. This is not a list of all the trips on Sagemont’s calendar, this is a list of trips that are designed with students in mind. So without further adieu:

The article was positive and informative, and valuable for the publicity that it gave to RFC, however the comments underscore the need to keep this young church in our prayers.

A message from the Sagemont Church Worship and Praise Ministry:

We are still needing some actors (and I use the term loosely) for Christmas Festival.  I need about 55 additional people – mostly adults, mostly men.  We can use some older teenagers, but we have enough children and junior high age.  As for adults, we need some senior adults and a lot of young/median adults.  All that is involved for these people is being available for some rehearsals (right now Sunday afternoons; that schedule will increase closer to Dec.) and for the performances on Dec. 4, 5, and 6.  No previous acting experience is required.  These are all needed for non-speaking parts.
